Who's the greatest hockey player of all-time? (Discussion)

Some say it’s no debate and as his moniker suggests it would be Wayne “The Great One” Gretzky. Others point to the injury shortened careers of both Bobby Orr (who revolutionized the way the game was played) or Mario Lemieux (who’s per game stats were often better than Gretzky’s) as the best player to ever step on the ice.

What if we go way back to the days of Maurice “Rocket” Richard or Mr. Hockey himself, Gordie Howe?

I don’t know anything about hockey… but the only name I’ve ever heard together with the phrase “greatest hockey player” is Wayne Gretzky. He’s supposed to have a great ability to strategically view the game and always stay one move ahead of everybody else.

Something often overlooked in this discussion is the leadership factor.
I have to go with a less celebrated player in Steve Yzerman to answer your question.
However, my experiences playing the sport lead me to see that the “best” player does not always mean most points.
